4 Signs You're Style Stuck

Are you feeling uninspired with your personal style? Do you find yourself lacking the motivation to “suit up” and look your best? As a stylist, I work with many clients who have found themselves frozen in front of their wardrobe doors. Not sure if this blog appeals to you yet? Well, I’ll share with you 4 signs that indicate if you’re ‘style stuck’.

The first sign is a lack of motivation when getting ready to go out. If you find yourself dreading the process of putting together an outfit, or you simply don’t enjoy it like you have done in the past. This could be a sign that you’re feeling completely uninspired with your wardrobe and surrounding style.

The second sign is relying on that one go-to item that you always seem to wear. This could be a particular shirt, jacket or even pair of shoes. While it’s great to have a much-loved piece (and obviously getting sustainable wear out of it) however relying on one item too heavily can simply mean that you’re totally perplexed when it comes to styling anything else from your wardrobe. You are style stuck my friend.

The third sign is mimicking the style of the closest person to you. This could be a friend, but also a partner! For instance, wearing identical colour pallets or the same style type; sartorial, street, rugged, etc. While it’s natural to be influenced by the people around you, it’s important to maintain your own sense of style and not fall into the trap of losing your own creativity.

The fourth and final sign is a lack of confidence in yourself, which can lead to underperforming in other areas of your life. Your personal style is a reflection of who you are, and if you’re not feeling sweet it can affect your relationships, your career and your overall lifestyle.

So, what can we do to break out of this stuck-in-the-style game we’re playing? The key is to find inspiration in surroundings and to understand our own personal style. For me, everything I see, hear and touch keeps my style wheels spinning! The font I read, the sounds on trains, the fabric in stores, they all spark a huge amount of creativity for me. To maintain an authentic sense of style, you need to constantly be squeezing your creative juices.

One of the best ways to find inspiration is to look to other sources, such as style blogs, content creators and even your top celebrities. But don’t just copy their style – use it as a starting point to create your own unique look. You can also try new things like experimenting with bold colours, crazy patterns, exaggerated shapes or incorporating different textures into your fits.

It’s also important to understand your own personal style. What colours do you feel most comfortable in? What styles do you gravitate towards? Where do you enjoy hanging out? Think of this as the ‘branding’ of you. Understanding your own style can help you make better choices when it comes to putting together outfits.

If you’re ever feeling uninspired with your style, there are a few signs to look out for. By finding inspiration in your surroundings and understanding your own personal style, you can break out of any style rut and start feeling confident and stylish once again. Remember, the idea is to understand who you are and express that through your wardrobe choices.
